A senior shield match was played nt Sandon on Saturday between teams representing the Feilding and Sandon Clubs, and lesulted in a win for tho visitors, after a well contested game, by 12 points to nil In the first spell Feilding played with the sun at their backs and secured nine points to their credit — a goal from a try and a potted goal. The try was obtained by Nash as the result of a, dribbling rush headed by Rosoinan, who took tie ball to within a yard of <he yoal line, and .Nash, by following up quieldy, secured the ball and scored. They, however, appeared •to be too anxious, particularly in the scrums. The backs had a fair amount of work to do considering that it was chiefly a forward game, but the passing for the most part was wild and ineffective. The backs on both sides never had a chance owing to tlie forwards "getting on them ' very quickly. For Sandon, Harper plnyed a brilliant de feusive game, his all-round smartness and clever punting removing the danger which threatened his goal line time after time He is undoubtedly the best man in the te im, and would be an acquisition to any team if he had a good half back in front of him. For Feilding, Shannon, aa usual, was the mainstay of the backs, but on one or two occasions ho passed in his own 25's instead of kicking. Olark played for the first time with the Feilding team, as centre three-quarter, putting in EOine good work Baker and Reade alsa put in good work. The forwards all worked hard, Johnston being about the pick. Mr F. Purnell acted as rcfereo and waa very fair in his decisioDs. As a recognition of his fairness he was given a cheer at the conclusion of the game. The Palmerston Club team defeated Alhambra on Saturday by 8 points to 7. The result of this match has improved the position of the Palmerston Club in the contest for ths shield, and it is now almost a certaicty that they will b 8 the winners. The match of the season should be the one to be played at Feilding on Saturday next between Palmerston and Feilding.
