MR. RICHARD RANDELL

The death occurred on Saturday afternoon of Mr. Richard Randell, a well-known -Wellington,-resident-who

was for many years in business in Molesworth Street and -who was also widely known as a rifle shot. Although he retired from business on the death of his partner (Mr. W. Judd) a few years, ago, Mr. Randell was a regular attendant at the old firm's business premises (taken over by Mr. E. R. Judd), and was there as usual on Saturday. His death occurred while he was gardening •at his home in Chaytor Street, Karori, on Saturday afternoon.

Born in Wellington 78 years ago in the locality now occupied by the Botanical Gardens, Mr. Randell was educated at the old Mowbray Street School. He took up plumbing as a calling, and was in business for over 40 years. In sport he showed himself to be a first-class rifle shot, and on various occasions he was in the King's Fifty at Trentham, gaining 10th, 20th, and 30th places in three successive j years. He was a member of the Karori! Rifle Club, in which he won many honours. Other branches of sport also claimed his attention, and he was one of the founders of the Karori Bowling Club. . Of a retiring disposition, he preferred not to figure prominently in the various interests which engaged his attention. He is survived by his wife and four sons (Messrs. Reg. and" Hardie Randell, of Wellington, Mr. Sid. Randell, of Tauranga, and Dr. Len. Randell, of Te Puke). MR. JOHN MACGIBBON The death has occurred in Christchurch of Mr. John Mac Gibbon, who, until his retirement in 1932, was manager of the Christchurch branch of the Bank of New Zealand. He was stationed in Wellington at the head office of the bank as staff inspector for some years. He was 75 years of age. Mr. Mac Gibbon was well known in commercial circles in Christchurch, being a director of a number of companies, and took a keen interest in local body activity. For several terms he was a member of the council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, and was on the board of the McLean Institute and the governing body of St. Andrew's College. He was also a member of the Cancer Research Society and an active worker for the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Mac Gibbon, who was a son of the Hon. T. MacGibbon, M.L.C., was born at Hokonui, Southland, and served in the teaching profession before joining the bank. He became accountant at Invercargill and Christchurch, and was subsequently appointed manager at Ashburton, after which he served a term at head office prior to his appointment as manager at Christchurch. He. is survived by his wife, five sons,-, and three I daughters. ■•
