NEW CYCLING RECORD

MELBOURNE, December 5.

Hubert Opperman today set a new cycling record for a. 24-hour unpaced ride of 505f miles, breaking the previous record held by Cyril Heppleston, England, by 37£ miles. A feature of the ride was that he did not dismount once on the journey, which began at the South Australian border and ended at Bairnsdale.

During the ride he also broke the Victorian and Australian ,12-hour records of 264 miles.

. On completipn of the ride Opperman said he regarded it as his greatest triumph, as the 24-hour record was the cycling blue ribbon.
