The annual meeting of shareholders of Big River Gold Mines was held at Reefton on July 12, and adopted the report and balance-sheet. Mr. J. W. Hannan presided. There were five nominations for the four vacant seats on the directorate. On a ballot being taken Messrs. J. B. Auld, J. B. Discaciati, J. "W. Hannan, and A. F. O'Donnell were elected directors for the ensuing year. Mr. W. B. Auld was elected auditor to the company. Operations of the company were fully discussed, and a vote of thanks to the managers and staff for their services during the last year was accorded. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting. Big River mine report for the week ending July 13 is as follows: —No. 5 level: North stope, south end, stoping; stone very dirty at this end. North stope, stone 2ft 6in wide; north level, advanced 6ft, total 18ft; still in track formation. No. 6 level: Cutting way around winze. Winze sunk 4ft, total 51ft; stone sft wide. Sent to battery, 28i- tons of stone. MOONLIGHT GOLDFIELDS. Moonlight Goldflelds Company, Ltd., advises that the wash-up at the company's claim this week was 105ioz for 450 hours' sluicing. MARTHA MINE. The following information has been cabled to the London office of the Martha Gold Mining Company (Waihi), Ltd.:—For the period ended July 1, comprising 20 crushing days, 15,273 tons of ore were crushed for a result of 3603 fine ounces of gold, and 27,973 fine ounces of silver. No. 2 level, I lode: Driving west of No. 2 shaft, south-east crosscut, the next 31ft shows no change. No. 4 level, I lode: Driving west of Lovett south-east crosscut, in the next 22ft, the vein is small and of good value, but not payable to stope. No. 5 level, north branch of Martha lode: In the crosscut to the north at 292 ft west, the next 6ft is country rock. Work has been stopped. WHITE'S ELECTRIC. White's Electric return of gold won by the company's dredge during the week ended July 18 is 240z treated in 118 hours' dredging time. SYLVIA MINE. . Sylvia Mine (Thames).—All preliminary work in preparation for the sinking of tlie shaft having been completed, excavation of chamber and shaft is now under way. The shaft will, be first sunk to a depth of eight feet to permit the collar and leading set to be placed in position, ahd the! excavation of the chamber will then be proceeded with, the necessary timbers to take the overhead gear being then built up from the collar, thus limiting as far as possible the amount of excavation work required for the chamber. On completion of that work the sinking of the shaft will be continued. A larger ventilation fan with mne : mch delivery has been installed, and is giving every satisfaction in efficient ventilation. The power plant and drills are working smoothly. NEW RIVER DREDGE. New River dredge reports a return ot gold won by the company's dredge during the week ended July 13, of i 220z from 8000 yards treated in 129 i hours' dredging time. ]
