LATE REV. T. F. TAYLOR
BISHOP'S TRIBUTE
"On May 29 there waJ called to higher service one who had almost become a legend in the life of the Church of New Zealand, Thomas Fielden Taylor. It is almost impossible to sum him up in a few sentences," said Bishop Holland at the Wellington Anglican Synod today, in referring to deaths among the clergy and laity of the diocese in his first year of office. "Even in the months in which I was privileged to know him," he continued, "I 'could sense the genius which had enabled him to build up, not only the manifold activities of the Wellington City Mission, but also a reputation as one of the most forceful and magnetic representatives of the Church of Christ which New Zealand has ever produced. Perhaps he approached nearer to a St. Francis of Assisi than any other priest most of us have known. Ho was utterly reckless_ of sclC and in spite of constant physical infirmity he used to the full the vast dynamic energy at his disposal for the good of the community as a.whole and made an undying place for himself in the memories of the soldiers lo whom he ministered in Gallipoli and of all those who were given a new hope and a new start in life under his care in Taranaki Street."
