Among the larger residences destroyed are those of the following:—E. Mendelssohn, J. P. Vautier, J. W. Ritchie, Dr. Moore, Dr. Edgar.
Amongst the more prominent buildings destroyed by firo at Port Ahuriri are the following:—Murray, Roberts and Co.; Robjohn's; Hindmarsh, Ltd.; the post office; Barry Bros.; the Crown Hotel; the Trawling Company; Ellison and Duncan. Ltd. COMPLETELY DESTROYED. Tho following prominent ; Napier buildings are* completely destroyed:— The /Nurses' Home and all wards of the Napier Hospital; ; the Provincial Hotel; Fred Lowe's garage; the A.M.P. Society building; Dr. \Y. Home's private hospital; the South British Insurance Co.; Williams and Kettle's offices; the Gaiety Theatre; A. A. Hastings, electrician; Eames, auctioneer; the Technical College; J. Vigor Brown's Empire Theatre building-; the Stephenson Trading Co; Swailes, Ltd., printers. At Port Ahuriri:—Williams and Kettle's wool store; portion of the National/Tobacco Co.'s factory; and the New Zealand Shipping Co.'s wool store. WITHSTOOD THE SHOCKS. Some of the larger buildings which withstood the earthquake shocks at Napier are as follows: —Public Trust; Forester's Hall; Dalgety's; offices of the Hawkes Bay Farmers; the Methodist Church; the Roman Catholic Cathedral; St. Augustine's Church; Hawkes Bay Motor Co., Ltd.; Hawkes Bay Power Board building;, the Athenaeum; the Courthouse; 11 the Borough Council Chambers; the Hawkes Bay Club; the Police Station; the Caledonian Hotel; Sargood, Son, and Ewen; Carlile, M'Lean,, Scannell, and Wood, solicitors.
