2NC, NEWCASTLE
IChe transmissions from tne new stajßon at' Newcastle (23STO) have aroused inueli ; interest, owing to their power and clarity. Many listeners have found it by-far the* most satisfactory of the [Australian stations at the present time, ■when the others are practically inaudible in the' early hours' owing to the protracted daylight effect of the summer. '.2NC is usually very easily heard Jong before the evening cpn'eert programme begins, and when botli 2PC arid 2BL are untouchable. Mr. Keith' Thow, of. Standard Telephones and Cables, who went from Wellington to supervise the erection of the station and of others in the new Australian relay system, writes to '-'Grid Bias" that 2NC was officially opened tra 19th December. It transmits on BM. metres (1245 kilocycles exactly), gna is crystal controlled, to insure stability of frequency. The unmodulated earrifir power in the aerial is 2000 watts, and the modulation is 85 pertjent. This high percentage modulation no doubt accounts in part for the good strength of reception hero. The Tyave-length also may be specially favourable for the conditions. Mr. Thow will be glad to receive rcjwrts on the reception of 2NC, addressed to him at Box 5258, G.P.0., Sydney. The next station in tho chain will be 4*RK, Eockhampton, the installation of Wiich will begin in January. It will "be similar to 2NC;
