r. -r, BASRA > 22nd May. Both the Euphrates and the Tigris, in the land of the Biblical Flood, are still rising. The outlook is becoming alarming. The town of Mahmudivah, fifteen miles south of Bagdad, is submerged, with heavy loss of life. The river wall has been broken at JSasiryah and Hindyah, where a vast area of land has been converted into an inland sea. Breaks are feared between Shaibah and Basra, thus inundating tho Imperial Airways and \ir l'orccs aerodromes at Shaibah.
