ATTACK ON THE ORDUNA
AMERICAN SKIPPER DODGES THE SUBMARINE. (Received July 19, 2 p.m.) NEW YORK, 18th July. Passengers by the _ steamer Orduna state that the submarine was hiding behind a ship, apparently the American barque Normanby. Captain Taylor became suspicious, and changed the Orduna's course. The white stream of the torpedo was then seen. It passed twenty yards astern. The submarine opened fire twenty minutes later. Captain Taylor constantly swerved, keeping the liner's stern towards the submarine. [The New York Herald protested last week against the brutal effrontery of the commander of a German submarine in compelling tho American barque Norman* by to act as a mask while a Russian merchantman was sunk. The Herald demanded a prompt disavowel and apology for the Normanby's temporary arrest,]
