JAPANESE WARSHIPS.
AUCKLAND, 6th January. The Japanese cruiser Soya was thrown open to the public this afternoon, and the opportunity of visiting the warship was availed of by large-numbers. Tomorrow afternoon the flagship Aso will also be thrown open. Colonel Boscawen, A.D.C., yesterday called upon Admiral Kato and, by direction of Lord Islington, invited him to visit Government House, Wellington. The Admiral, however, had to express iegreWat being unable to accept the invitation as the squadron sails on Monday for Sydney. Tie Admiral expresses delight and appreciation of the hospitality that .has betfn •extended to himself, his officers, and tho men of the squadron during thoir stay in Auckland.
