HEAVY RAINS. FLOODS IN QUEENSLAND.
WHARVES INUNDATED. RESERVOIR BURSTS. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received February 6, 9 a.m.) BRISBANE/ This Day. Eight inches of rain fell at Rockhampton and nine at Gladstone on Friday last. At Rockhampton, all the wharves and portions of the town are inundated. The water in some of the streets is feet deep. At Gladstone the town reservoir burst. Railway traffic beyond the flooded areas has been suspended. The latest reports are that the rain ifi clearing and the flood waters commencing to recede. SEVERE STORM IN MELBOURNE. HOUSES FLOODED. SOME EXCITING RESCUES. MELBOURNE, This Day. There was a severe storm in the city last evening, an inch and a half of rain falling in an hour. The streets were foaming torrents, and much damage was done, the water flooding houses and warehouses in the city and round Coilingwood, Malvern, Armadale, and Toorak. The water was feet deep in many of the houses. There were some exciting rescues.
