AN EXPLANATION. By Telegraph.— Preet Association.— Copyright. (Received August 6, 10 a.m.) LONDON, sth August, The management of the Hearts of Oak Building Society, which it was stated had a debit balance of £157,000, and regarding the affairs of which a committee of enquiry had been ordered, states that the institution has a reserve fund of £3,752,000, and that a deficiency would exist only if the society were called on to pay all claims together - — a contingency that is not likely to arise.
