CARS PLUNGE INTO AN ICEBOUND RIVpB. SENSATIONAL INCIDENTS. MANY PASSENGERS, KILLED, By Telegraph.— Preas Association.— Copyright. OTTAWA, 24tb January. Particulars qi the Ontario railway disaster show that the train, which was an express, was derailed and struck the Spanish River bridge, (several cars plunging into the river, where the ice was twelve inches thick. A first-class carriage and the diningcar plunged 30 feet into tbe river, while the second-cla§s cars crashed into the stone abutment, killing twenty persons outright. Reynolds, the guard, was lunching in the dining-car when the crash came. He diyed out while the car was sinking, climbed up on top of it, and assisted the smaller passengers to escape through the ventilatprs. He then smashed /a hole in the roof wi^h. an axe, enabling spven more of those inside to escape. The interior of the car finally caught fire. A blizzard was raging a* 1 the time, and this prevented tl^e repovery of the bodies. The temperature was below zero. It is estimated • that between forty and seyenty persons were lulled.
