The Pail Mall Gazette protests against the churlish incivility shown by the City Council of Vancouver in declining to narticipate in the forthcoming welcome to the Jiapanese cruisers. } The Japanese names of the two cruis-cHS-are the Aso and Soya. The foimer is an armoured cruiser of 7726 tons displacement, completed in 1902, and the latter a, cruiser of 6500 tons, completed in 1900. They v.ere foimerly Russian rruisprs — thair respective names being the Bayan and Varyag — which were captured during the recent war. It was announced lately that arrangements were being made to give the two warships a cordial reception, but evidently the illfeeling against the Japanese, which broke out in rioling two years ago, is not extinct.
