FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR. G. FRIEND.
—— -»• How much the late Mr. George Friend, for many years Clerk of tho House of Representatives, was esteemed by his many friends was evidenced by the large attendance at his funeral, which left his late residence on Thorndon-quay at 9.15 this morning. The principal mourners were Miss Friend and Mrs. J. E. FitzGerald, with Sir Maurice O'Rorke (Speaker), the permanent officers of the House of Representatives, and Mr. Cumin (Parliamentary Draftsman), a very old friend of the deceased. Among the others in the procession wore the Premier, Captain Russell, and meinb°rs of both Upper aud Lower Houses, Mr. Amehus Smith, the Hon. T. W. Hislop, Dr. Martin, Mr. Grattau Gray, aud Mr. C. C. N. Barron. The interment took place at the Karori Cemetery, where the Rev. Mr. Dasent conducted a short service in the Mortuary Chapel and at the graveside. Tlie bereaved family has received many expressions of sympathy, and among the numerous floral offerings sent were wreaths from the Speaker and officers of the House, Mr. and Mrs. Otterson, Mr. TV. Watson, Mr. R. M. Simpson, Dr. and Mrs. Grace, members of the Ministry, Private Secretaries to Ministers, the Hansard staff, Committee clerks of the House, and the Karori Cricket Club.
