Fires in the Wairarapa.

Bush fircß are still causing groat damago in tho Wairarapa District. Information was reooived by Inspector Shearman to-day that a three-roomed cottage at White's Line, Taratahi, owned by Mrs. Ellen Smith, was burned down on the 18th inst., together with a atablo and a quantity of hay. The _ fire was communicated to the premises frpm the adjoining bush. The building is understood to he insured by the Public Trustee in the New Zealand Office for £50. Constable Darby reports thatmileaof fencing and gross in the vicinity of Carterton have been destroyed by the fire. An outhouse attached to the dwelling of Mad Madson, at Morrison's Bnsh, owned by Mr. Samuel Garralty, was also destroyed by a bush fire. The building was insured in the New Zealand office for £40. A quantity of hay was also destroyed. Communication between Martinborough and Greytown has been interrupted, owing to the burning of a bridge on tho mam road. Repairs, however, have been effected. The residences of several settlers in the district were only saved by great exertions.
