The City of San Francisco left Lyttelton at 2 o'clock this afternoon, for Wellington, and should arrive here about 4 o'clock to-morrow morning. , The s.s. Southern Cross, Captain Petersen, left Auckland on the 4th, experienced strong southerly wind and heavy head sea, and arrived at Napier at 9 a.m. on the 7th ; left at 4 p.m. on the Bth, had fine weather, and arrived in harbor at 8.30 last night. She was taken round to the Slip at 11 tlus morning, and taken up to receive an overhaul. The s.s. Hawea anived at the wharf this morning at 9.;30. She left Port Chalmers at 4 15 p m. on the Bth, and arrived at Lyttelton at 11 a.m. on the 9th ; lett at 4.30 p m., arriving as above. Experienced fresh N.E. winds thmucrhout. ?he sailed North this afternoon. The ship Shnkespi-are, lying in the stream, finished the discharge ot her cargo to-day, and ' is now waiting <»rriers. The schoonsr Kate, from the Sound, with timber, arrived here last night. The barque Schiehallion, in ballast, sailed for Napier last night. The schooners Star of the Sea and Canterbury, for Pelorus Sound, got away last night. The steamers Manawatu and Stormbird, for Wanganui, Napier, for Foxton. and Taranaki, for Southern ports, sailed this afternoon. The barque Duke of Edinburg, which sailed from Newcastle for Wellington on the 29th ult., comes under charter to Captain Williams, with coals. Captain Palmer, of the s.s. Southern Cross, being indisposed, Mr. Petersen, chief officer, has assumed command for tins trip.
