The steamer Woolloomooloo, bound from Sydney to London, collided with the collier Emerald in a dense fog three miles north-west of the Casquet Rocks, 1 in th"c English Channel. The former had an immense hole knocked in her starboard side below the water line, and was towed into Cherbourg anchorage. She took in so much water that she was down 6ft. by the bows, and her propeller was out of the water. The vessel had to be beached to prevent her from sinking. The Emerald s bows were also stove in.
