THE MASSEY-HARRIS CULTIVATOR.
» — A satisfactory trial of the Massey-Harris Steel-frame Cultivator was held at Mr George Aitcheson's farm on Tuesday last. The machine was a Gft one with grain box attached, and was drawn by three of Mr Aitcheson's horses which were a very fine team. A start was made at 2 pan. in a pad^o.cfc which had just been ploughed up out of fee tea. In this the machine made ! excellent work, gulyergjflg the land, up in a I
most satisfactory manner, and leaving a firstclass seed bed. After giving satisfactory trial in lea furrow, a trial was given in turnip land. In this, the cultivator was worked to a depth of G.Jin, pulversing the land well up leaving all weeds on the surface, and making a first-class seed bed for grain, etc. A trial was given in stiff hard land grown over with grass, etc. However, in four strokes the cultivator worked it up to a depth of Giin. The cultivator was also shown working over stumps. After the trial had heen declared a decided success by all present, the grain box was then shown sowing oats from one bushel up to five bushels per acre, covering it at a uniform depth. The feeder is a force one which is most reliable and accurate. The feed is adjusted by a slide, this doing away with change of wheels. Several farmers were present and witnessed the trial, all pronouncing it a decided success. Mr Aitcheson purchased the machine on the ground. We may mention here that the company has just brought out a lime bos in connectien with these cultivators, which is capable of sowing from lewt up to 36cvt per acre. Messrs Peters and Shtels, Balclutha, are agents for these machines.
