CLUTHA AND MaTAU AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.

ANNUAL HORSE PARADE. The annual parade of entire horses under the auspices of the above society, held on Friday last, was one of the most successful in point of tho number and quality of the animals exhibited the society has yet had. The threatening aspect of the weather, though it gladdened the iiearts of the farmers, doubtless prevented many of them from attending. At anyrate the attendance was not up to last year. In the draughts, besides those that travelled the district last year, and which were all as fit and fresh looking as ever and shown in fine condition, there were two entirely new ones viz. Pure Diamond, the property of Thos. Brown, Owaki and Awamoa, the property of John M'Donald, Oamaru, The former is a round-bodied strong-made animal with a good reputation, and well worthy the attention of breeders. Awamoa is a fine specimen of Clydesdale breed /..-and, as his name implies, was bred by the 1 Hon. M. Holmes. He was in good condition I 'and' had many admirers. In the roadsters, Harkaway and Bothwell looked as fit as ever. Mr VV. Howie's Harkaway (now j Artist) was the only thoroughbred. He i is well come, and will doubtless take well in the district. Mr J. VV. Wilson, auctioneer, read the pedigrees of the different horses, hut before doing so he congratulated the farmers and other breeders present upon the fine class of horses on parade. They had plenty to choose from, and plenty of quality, and he had no donbt they would leave a superior class of stock in the district. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a process for automatically extracting text from scanned pages. OCR enables searching of large quantities of full-text data, but it is not 100% accurate. The level of accuracy depends on the print quality of the original newspaper and its condition at the time of microfilming. Newspapers with poor quality paper, small print, mixed fonts, multiple column layouts or damaged pages may have poor OCR accuracy.

The page where this item appears has an estimated OCR accuracy of 97.17%.
