OBITUARY

MR P. HALLY (PBES3 ASSOCIATION TELEGEAII.) AUCKLAND, July 21,

The death of Mr Patrick Hally, one of the three original Conciliation Commissioners, occurred at Auckland today. Mr Hally, who was 72 years of age, died after an illness which lasted several weeks. He was born and educated in Dunedin. In 1890 he became president of "the Boqt Trade Union,

and three years afterwards the president of the Dunedin Tailoresses' Union. He was a member of the first Conciliation Board of Otago and Southland. In 1902 he became a member of the Dunedin City Council, and in 1904 he was appointed an inspector of factories, in which capacity he was given charge of the Department of Labour office. Four years later he became one of the three Conciliation Commissioners appointed under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act of 1908.

111-health caused Mr Hally to retire in 1936. He leaves a wife and two sorts, one other son having been killed at the war.
