CURRENT NOTES i Miss Fuller, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs Stewart, at Heretaunga, has returned home to "Mirirau," Rangiora. Miss Iris Potter has returned to Wellington, where her marriage to Mr H. F. Fox will take place next week. Miss F. Fessey, mantle buyer for Messrs Dray ton-Jones, Ltd., will leave to-night on a business trip to Wellington and Auckland. The Lady Evelyn Drummond, wife of Commodore the Hon. E. R. Drummond, left Auckland this week by the Niagara for Honolulu. Mr and Mrs W. C. Braddon (Scwell street, Hokitika), two wellknown and esteemed residents of the West Coast, celebrated their golden wedding this week. Mrs H. B. S. Johnstone ("Springbank," Otaio) is paying a short visit to Christchurch. Miss June Wright (St. Martins), who has been visiting her aunt. Miss Marion Hay, Timaru, is spending a few days with Mrs Slone-Wigg, Waihi, Winchester, before returning home at the end of the week. At a meeting of the North Canterbury Provincial Executive of the | Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, appreciation was expressed ol' the kindness of Mr A. Leslie, of Lincoln College, in giving a talk on "Milk" under the auspices of the Women's Division, and it was decided to send him a letter of thanks expressing this appreciation. As an adjunct to their business, Messrs; Hay's, Ltd., are opening a tea room, in the upstairs premises, which the firm has recently leased. It is not proposed that the tea room should be a major feature of the business, but rather that it should be of service to customers. The firm does not claim anything pretentious for it, but customers will find it bright and attractive, and it is thought that the lounge, which is part of the service, will be appreciated. A. AND T. BURT, LTD, STAFF DANCE The first staff dance held by a firm involves much preliminary work- and forethought, but the committee appointed to make the necessary arrangements for the first dance of the Christchurch branch of Messrs A. and T. Burt, Ltd., proved very successful organisers, and it is probable that the dance held at Frascati last night will be the forerunner of similar entertainments each year. The ballroom had been effectively decorated with streamers, and small coloured lights showed against the lattice work of the alcoves. Yellow narcissi brightened the supper tables. Members of the organising committee were Miss Marie Smith, Messrs E. Brook, L. Wilson, M. D'Arcy, C. G. Smart, and R, Wallburton (honorarv secretary). Miss Smith wore a frock of blue chiffon velvet, the narrow neck yoke and sleeves being of silver lame to match a laced belt at the waistline. George Bradford's orchestra supplied the dance music, and the evening's programme included novelty dances, demonstration dances by Mr Robert Tonge, Mr J. Talam and partner, and songs by Mr W, Toomey. At her home, Riccarton House, yesterday afternoon, Mrs Deans entertained many friends at a particularly pleasant bridge party. Big bowls of wattle brightened the hall, pink camellias and narcissi decorated the drawingroom where the bridge tables were arranged, and in the dining-room, pride of place on the tea-table was accorded a large green bowl o£ beautiful gold narcissi.

Mrs Deans wore a handsome frock of black delustred satin, smartly trimmed with cameo pink crepe needlerun with gold thread.

GUEST OP TRAINED NURSES'

Miss L. M. Trumble, R.R.C., joined the nursing staff of the Cashmere Sanatoria in 1910, and, ever since, except during the years of the war, when she was on active service overseas, she has worked tirelessly for sufferers from tuberculosis. During those years there have been many changes at the sanatoria, but, in one particular, there has been no change, and that has been in Miss Trumble's devotion to duty. Her kindness to the patients, her sympathy with their relatives, her consideration tor her staff, have been unfailing, and her retirement, in a few days, from the position of matron of all the tuberculous institutions on Cashmere Hills, will be regretted, not only in Christchurch, but throughout Canterbury and the West Coast,

To do her honour, and to give her an opportunity of meetins; many fel-low-workers in the profession, the members of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Trained Nurses' Association held a reception at Ballantyncs yesterday afternoon, when, included amongst the guests were several members of the association who luivc retired from active work and uumy who have, at some time, been associated with Miss Trumble, during <ier years of training at the Christchurch Hospital, at the war, or at the sanatorium.

ANNUAL DANCE At the Winter Garden last night the employees of Andersons, Ltd., held their annual dance, and they must have felt gratified at the very large number of their friends present, who spent a most enjoyable evening dancing to the music of the Bailey-Mars-ton orchestra. . Variety was provided during the evening by an eccentric dance given by Mr R. Tonge, an exhibition dance by Mr J. I'anson and Miss G. Fitzsimmons, and songs sung by MiErnest Short. OLD PUPILS' DANCE

ST. MICHAEL'S SCHOOL The first annual dance last night of the old pupils of St. Michael's School provided an auspicious beginning to the social activities of the newlyformed old pupils' association. The function, which was held in the school hall, proved very enjoyable, and its success should be very encouraging to the social committee of the association. Mrs Arthur Vile, Misses Joan Telford and Una Duggan, and Messrs J. Wicks, D. Campbell, C. Auton, and Eric Robertson were associated in arranging last night's dance, and its success is due, in no small measure to their work and ability. The headmistress of the school, Miss K. V. Kiver, was the guest of the association. She wore a frock of black ring velvet, and during the evening she was presented with a bouquet. Mrs Vile wore a frock of green georgette; Miss Duggan, black georgette and chiffon; and Miss Telford, black ring velvet trimmed with lame.
