RE-NAMING OF STREETS.

AVOIDING CONFUSION AND DUPLICATION. A special meeting of the Waimairi County Council was held, last evening to consider the question of duplicated street names. It was reported that the duplication of names had oeen a source of annoyance to the p»st office authorities arid the Are brigade, and that in several cases doctors had gone to the wrong end of the town in answer to urgent calls. As a result of complaints a conference of representatives of the W&imairi Council and the City Council had been held. A number of street names were dealt with and a list was forwarded for consideration. Finality was reached in regard to many streets as follows: — Albert street, City (retained); Albert street, Waimairi, becomes Parish street; Alfred street, City (retained); Alfred street, Waimairi, becomes Liggins street; Allen street, City (retained); Allan street, Waimairi, becomes Fuller avenue; Boultoir street, City (retained);- Boulton street, Waimairi, becomes Cutts road; Carlton Mill road and Carlton street to be adjusted between the City and Biccarton Councils; Carleton avenue, Waimairi, to become Kirkwood avenue; Church lane and Church square to be adjusted by the City; Church street, Waimairi, to become Clifford street; Clyde road, Waimairi (rctainod); Clyde street, City, to be altered; Francis avenue, City (retained); Francis street, Waimairi, to be a continuation of Bassett street; Green's road, Waimairi (retained); Green's lane, Biccarton, and Green's way, City, to be altered; Hagley street and Hagley avenue, City ? to be adjusted between Biccarton and City; Hamilton street, Waimairi (retained); Hamilton street, City, to be altered; Harper street and Harper avenue, City, to be adjusted; Harper street, Waimairi, to become Leslie street; King street, City (retained); King street, Waimairi, to become Kingsford street; Kingloch street, City (retained); Kinloch street, Waimairi, to become Kingsford street, of whiehit will be a continuation; Martin's road, Waimairi (retained); Martin's avenue, City, to be altered; Princes street, City, Princes street, Biccarton, and Princess street, Waimairi, to be adjusted by the City and Biccarton Councils; Queen's street, City (retained); Queen's street. "Waimairi, to become Queensbury street; Smith street, City, Smith street, Biccarton, and Smith street, Heathcote, to be adjusted by their respective councils, and Smith street, Waiinairij to become Queonsbury street, of which it is a continuation; Taylor's road, Waimairi (retained); Taylor's street, Biccarton, Taylor's street, City, to be adjusted; Westenra street, Waimairi, to become Trigger street; Wakefield road, City, and Wakefield avenue, City, to be adjusted, and Wakefield road, Waimairi, to become Brodie street; Park terrace, City (retained); Park lane, Biccarton, and Park road, City, to be adjusted; Park street, Waimairi, to become Gurry street, and Park lane, Waimairi, was left in abeyance; Webb's road, City (retained); Webb's road, Waimairi, to become I lam road, of which it is a continuance. The .duplication of Hills View road (2) and ,Hills road (3) was left, in abeyance. The recommendations to alter Bishop's road, Harman's road, and Langdon's road were objected to, and it was decided to leave the question regarding the new names open to objections by ratepayers interested.
