BOROUGH COUNCILS.

SUMNER. A meeting of the Sumner Borough Coiin-i.-ii was held last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr W. H. Nicholson) and Crs. I". C. Cooper. H. "W. Harris, C. T. Denham, A. Holdea. E. F. Sandford, and D. F. Oldridge. The Engineer reported that footpaths and water-tables in Redeliffs had been cleaned and lupins and gorse cleared in several Sumner streets. Grading had been carried out on the Scarborough road, Wakefield avenue, and Lyttelton hill, and the main road from Maffey's corner and the Sumner Post Office wag now being repaired. He had alto applied for a subsidy from the Minister for Public Works towards effecting repairs to the Surf Club pavilion protection wall. Both these representations were sympathetically received. With reference to the proposed control of the Estuary by the Marine Department, Cr Cooper moved that the vesting of the Estuary in the I/yttelton Harbour Board be supported.
