NEW STREETS.
NAMES SELECTED. v At the. previdbs meeting of the City Council a clause of the By-laws and Finance Committee regarding ja proposal by Mr T. S. Dacre, to nam? a new street in Spreydon Fairview street, was referred back for consideration; last night the Committee reported that it had given the subject further consideration and, as it did not consider that the names • "Fairview street and "Fairfield avenue" would be likely to lead to confusifin, it recommended that the name suggested by Mr Dacre be retained. The Committee, however, desired to emphasise the remarks made by the Mayor at last meeting of the Council as to the disposition on the part of some people to proceed in such matr ters without first obtaining the Council's authority. The report was adopted. Tho Committee approved of the name of "Clouston" for tne new street in Mr J. F. Tippitig's off Si. Martin's road,, and of the name of "Wembley" for the new 'street off Longfellow street.
