HEATHCOTE COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of tho He3thcote County Council was held last night, Cr. C. Flavell presiding. Othors present were:—Crs. B. Riley, •T. H. Moore, W. Kerr, J. F. Scott, J. h. Danks, and W. Scarff. The Arauui Burgesses' Association wroto forwarding a plan and option of 9J acres of land, situated between Breezes road and Shortland street, together with tho following resolution: "That the Heatbcote County be approached, asking it ;o arrange for a poll | to be held of the ratepayers of the whole of tho Avon Riding, and that part of tho Bromley Riding north and cast of the Drainago Board's property: (1) for the purchase of tho sito only, (2) for the purchase of the site and the preparation of the land for playing grounds, the wholo. loan not to exceed £1500." On Mr Kerr's motion it was decided (o reply that if the Association obtained a petition signed by the majority of the ratepayers the Couucil would go into the matter. Tho Jjßiid and Survey Department wroto that Rata street had been altered to Buxton terrace, and that the other street the Council wished to have altered, Matipo street, was under consideration, as Riccarton hud a street of the same name, and the Commissioner suggested another name to save duplication. On Mr Scott's motion it was decided that tho name Kowhai terrace bo suggested. The New Brighton Borough Council wroto asking tho Council to use. its utmost endeavour to have rage's road declared a Main Highway. The letter was recoived. Tho Drainage Board wroto with regard to Cashmcro sewage and Wainoni road, advising that a sub-committee had been set up to consider the former, and that the latter would not bo sewered within tho next twelve months. The letter was received. With regard to the apportionment of cost of New Brighton bridge, the New Zealand Counties' Association wrote advising that if the Council complied with 131 (d) of the Counties Act, tho cost would bo borno by tho two ridings, as they contributed to the niaintenanco of Page's road. The letter waa received. The inspector's report stated that loft of Bin pipes wcro required to replace the timber part of a culvert at Wainc-ni road, which waa choked with willow roots, lie pairs to the riverbank near Lorgelly's road had been mado, but further work was necessary. Work en Dyer's Pass road was progressing satisfactorily. The roof had been taken off the intermediate vcaervoir and tha outlet pipe bad been extended in preparation for repairing tho reservoir. The amount for building permits issued for the half-year ending September 30th amounted to £38,228, mado up in the following manner:—Avon £1290, Bromley £530, Hillsborough £7014, Vallev £-2755, Cashmcro £25,556, and Mt. Pleasant .11053. Mr H. G. Eil waited on tho Council with regard to three matters. Ho -sked that the fee of £3 10« for the removal of rubbish from the Takaho residence house shoiild be reduced, that the Council shor.ld increase its grant of £SO for improving the road between tne Takahc and the Kiwi, ar.d that tho Council should take as littia land as possible for road-widening near the Takahe. The consideration of the road was deferred, and it waa decided to take- as little land as possible. With regard to tha fee, it was decided to reduce it to 15s per week, tha refuse to be taken a-wsy each month. The chairman reported that the work with regard to the Sanatorium footpath had been held up owing to tha pressure of work, but the matter would be looked into as soon as possible.
