TRAMWAY BOARD.

■ • ORDINARY MEETING. A meeting of the Christchurch Tramway Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present:—Messrs J. A. Flesher, deputy-chairman (in the chair), W. Hill, •S. A. Staples, D. Sykes, W. Recce, and A. W. Beaven. Apologies were made for the chairman and Messrs Pearco and Gray. The Chairman reported tho result of the meeting regarding tho proposed extension of the Papanui line, and read the resolution arrived at. The Works and Traffic Committee reported that it had decided to order from its English indentors 280 tons of different classes of rails for stock purposes. The committee had appointed IMr B. Stocks to the position of perj manent way foreman. i Tli6 Board went into committee to ; discuss tho last-mentioned matter, and jon resuming it was reported that the j clause had been adopted. The whole j report was adopted. | The Drivers' Union wrote complainj ing that at the intersections of streets j the tram lines were below tho level of the streets, and endangered drivers. The lines in Worcester street and Cashel i street were especially dangerous. It was decided to reply, thanking the i Union for sending the letter, and ; stating that the Board would do what it '■ could after consulting with the City Council. j Mr J. C. Donaldson wrote complaining • of the change of the stop on the Hack- ' thorno road extension from Aoraka to Gwynfa. The general manager explained that it was found necessary to _ive the stopping-place a name, and the name Aoraka was taken from a gate in the vicinity, but after the line was completed the name Gwynfa was placed on a gate immediately opposite the stop, and this name was adopted. It was decided to receive the letter. A resolution defining the Papanui tramway extension special rating area was agreed to. The tenders of J. Taylor of £162 for trie erection of dressing-rooms, store, etc., at tlte power station, and of Large and Allen of £59 for destination boxes, were accepted. Mr Sykes referred to the inconvenience caused to strangers, especially by the destination signal "Spreydon" being shown on the cars running to Coronation street. The Chairman said that arrangements were being made for ; new destination signals, and the matter j complained of would be rectified. \ Accounts amounting to £5815 4s lOd j were passed for payment. The next meeting of the Board was fixed for March 11th.
