NAZARETH HOUSE.

RECEPTION OF THE NEW REV MOTHER.

The new Rev. Mother e>f Nazareth House, Mother Mary Joseph, with two Sisters of Nazareth, arrived from England yesterday, via Sydney, and were received by tho acting-Mother Miana and several of the sisters. In tlie evening His Lordship Bishop Grimes, accompanied by the very Rev. Father Price, Administrator, paid a visit ot welcome to the new Rev. Mother.

His Lordship said that he had great pleasure in welcoming tbe Rev. Mother to tbe ChrisU-burch Nazareth House, and also tho much-needed addition of two sisters to the staff of sisters now in residence there. The work attached to the supervision and caring for the welfare of the large number of children and infirm old people now in the Home had bevn a pretty severe task, and he asked the .Mother Home at Hammersmith to send out six additional sisters, lie was very pleaseel indeenl to meet Rev. Mother Mary Joseph, as he had, whilst on his vi.->it to the Old Country, met her at Berry. He hoped that the Rev. Mother and sisters would be pleased with their surroundings, and that the blessing which had res'ed on the work of Nazareth House since its commencement in a small way some six years ago would still continue. Rev. Mother Mary Joseph expressed her taonso of the honour done to tU** sisters who had come with her from England by the visit that afternoon of His Lordship tbe Bishop, and the Very Rev. tho Administrator. They were delighted with the country, and tho Houso, and with all tho arrangements, which were exceedingly complete. His Lordship had spoken of asking for six sisters. It was a matter of difficulty with the Mother House to supply all the needs of the Homes in the various parts of the world, which wore increasing rapidly. However, it was hoped that by degrees the original number asked for by His Lordship would be able to he sent. In the meantime, the two sisters she had brought with her might be iookeel upon as an instalment. She once more thanked His Lordship and Very Rev. Father Price for the welcome to their new Home.

It may bo noted that the first House of tho Sisters of Nazareth here was opened by Rev. Mother De Pazzi and five Sisters about six years ago in a building on the Ferry roael. This, howcvei* was found tei bo too small, and the purchase of a large area at The Grove, formerly part of the William Wilson Estate, was carrieel out, and the fine block of buildings which is a wing of tho building as desgneel, was erected. At present thero are over one hundred anel fifty children and old people under tho caro of the Sisters. Mother De Pozzi being recalled home to take up important work at Birmingham, she was succeeded by Mother Felix. The latter went Home recently, anel was retained there, having been appointed! as Local Superior of tho Mother House. Mother Mary Joseph, who was then armointed to the vacancy, ha& been connected with the Sisters of Nazareth for over twenty years. Originally sho was attached to the Houso in Dcrry, of which she was Rev. Mother. Subsequently she proceeded to Liverpool, and was in charge of tho House there. It was while acting as Rev. Mother of the Liverpool House that Mother Mary Joseph received her marching orders for New Zealand, and the party left England in the Orotava, one of the Orient line. On arriving in Sydney, after a short visit to the convents there, the Moeraki wan joined, and the Rev. Mother and two Sisters arrived here on Wednesday. His Grace Archbishop Redwood, who was returning from the Eucharistic Conference, was also a passenger by tho Moeraki. ' i
