RE- NAMING STREETS.

Since ill* amalgamation of the boroughs of Sydenham, St. Albans, and Linwood with "the city, d : fficuity and confusion has arisen over the duplication of street nam«e in Greater Christcbureh. To remove these difficulties a special committee of the. City Council was set up, and at last night's meeting the report of tl» committee was submitted and 1 adopted. The City Surveyor was empowered to give effect to the committee's recommeadationa by havipg name plates provided for the streets that have been re-named. Aβ the matter ia one that will simplify the> work of the Post Office, the Council decided to forward to the Chief Postmaster a. list, of the alterations made. Regarding the namea originally given to the streets of this city, a representative of "The Press" was informed by the |lon. ■ C C. Bowcu how the names were decided upou. After Lyttelton and Chriatchurch had been surveyed and the street* laid out, tlie question of naming the streets presented iteeJf to the Canterbury Association's olikf surveyor, Captain, Thomas, who discussed it with Mr Jollie.
