RE-NAMING THE BELTS.

THE PEOPOSAL AGREED TO.

The adjourned debate by the City Council on Cr. Gray's motion to re-name the the Town Belts was continued at the Council meeting last night. Cγ. Gray said that Ine matter had been held over in order to ascertain whether the public desired to offer any suggestions on the matter. None had been made, and it was generally agreed that his proposals were the most suitable. He woulcf accordingly move—"That the North belt be re-named 'Bealoy Avenue,' the South belt 'Moorhouse Avenue, , the East belt 'Fitzgerald Avenue,' and that portion of Antigua street from Armagh street to the Hospital bridge 'Rolleston Avenue.'" Cr. Otley said it would be more suitable to name the East belt after Mr Rolleston, who had lived in that locality for a number of years. The Mayor pointed out that Mr Rolleston had been closely associated with Canterbury College, which adjoined Antigua street, and it was also proposed to erect Mr Bollecton'e statue in Antigua street. Cr. Forrester suggested lhat the road past the saleyarde, from the South belt to the Carfton, should be named "Deane Avenue." The Mayor said that that suggestion would have to be dealt with at another time. The motion was put and carried unanimously.
