LINWOOD METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL.

The second annual anniversary of the Linwood Methodist Sunday School was celebrated at the church, Park road, on Tuesday night by a coffee supper. Tho Rev. T. W. Newbold occupied the chair, and nearly 200 parents, friends arid scholars were present. The report and balance-sheet were read by the secretary, Mr W. H. Wise. The total receipts amounted to £20 9s 3d, there being a balance of £5 lis 7d at the end of the year. The teaching staff, which at the beginning of the year numbered six now number eleven. Special reference was made regarding the good work done by Mr C. E. Salter, a former superintendent, arid Miss Snesby, a farmer teacher, both of whom had to retire from the work owing to removal to other districts. The scholars' roll, which at the beginning of the year numbered 49, with an average attendance of 36, has increased to 73, with an average attendance of 58. Two of the •scholars had gained certificates at the Sunday School Union* examination. The Sunday School at present is under the" superintendence of Mrs Wise, and is making rapid progress. During the evening special hymns were sung by the children and choir under the leadership of Mr W. H. Wise, solos by Misses Grose and Male and Mr Higgitt, violin solo by Mr Male, recitations by Misses Male and M. Rowe. The prizes were distributed by Mrs Marcroft, a lady who is looked upon as the mother of this Sunday School, she having been the promoter, and one who, by her rift of the land upon which the church stands, has given an impetus to the cause*in the Linwood district. Addresses were delivered by the Rev. Mr Newbold, Mrs Wise and Mr C. E. Salter. The collections were, on Sunday £3 lis, and on Tuesday £2 Is 3d.
