SYDENHAM.
I The Sydenham Borough Council met at 7.30 p.m. yesterday. Present—The Mayor (Mr J. Hadfield), Crs. R. Bell, B. P. Manhire, W. Jacques, S. Day, C Lafferty, R Young, W. H. Meikleliam, J. B. Sim, R M. Taylor, and T. Cutler. ' Leave of absence was granted to Crs. Murray and Halley, i The Primitive Methodist Connexion were - granted the use of Sydenham Park for the afternoon of Sunday, 15th inst. The Works Committee, ac they had not been able to arrange with other owners, recommended that the Hon. J. T. Peacock's offer in respect to the widening of Crescent road be declined with thanks; that the name of '"Mansfield street," through the Hon. Mr : Peacock's property between Crescent road j and Ruskm street, be approved; that tenders be called for forming the said street, and for a concrete culvert in the bed of the creek; and that no objection be offered to the cutting off of a sharp corner opposite Mr , Oswald's property, Burke street. The report i was adopted. The Finance Committee reported, the receipts to have been £702 9s 6d, and recommended for payment accounts amounting to £5519 4s Sd. The balance of accounts were— Credits, separate trust account £386 10s 10d, loan interest £41113s lid, loan £4867 9s 6d ; debit, general account £3181 18s 9d. The report was adopted. ! A motion by Cr. Taylor, that in the future in all contracts the rate of labourers* wages be fixed at 7s a day, was carried.
