OBITUARY.
A telegram received at Napier from Patea announces the death Of Mr Edward Jollie, of Jollie, Fulton and Co., Napier. The deceased came to the colony in 2842 as one of the cadets in the New Zealand Company's service. He subsequently entered the service of the Canterbury Association prior to the arrival of the first four ships, ana was . associated with Messrs I. Case and Hewlinge in the survey of liyttelton and Chrurtehurch. Ue was also the first to drive sheep overland from Nelson to Canterbury by Jollies Pass, in the Amuri. * At a later period Mr Jollie took np his residence in Canterbury, and on the constitutionbeioggranted to New Zealand entered politics, and held the office of Provincial Secretary for a considerable time. He also turned his attention to farming, and held a farm at Soathbridge. He then paid, a visit to England, and on returning to the colony in 1834 bought a farm at Patea, where he resided ap to the time of his decease. He leaves a widow and eight children.
The Pifi Times of July 28th record* the dentil of Mr X. W. Barker. He was a native of Bridluagton, York, England, and left Eigland for New Zealand about thirty-four years ago. He was engaged in farming and other parauits for most of that tune on Banks* Peninsula, Canterbury. Hβ arrived la Fiji about nine and a half years ago, but for the last six year* he has been ailing from bronchitis.
