W OOLSTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Woolston Borough Council held their usual monthly meeting on Thursday evening. Present — Crs. Hopkins, Douglass, Gimblett, Milne, Wood, Parish, and the Mayor (Mr Richardson). The Finance Committee submitted a schedule of duties, and recommended the appointment of A. R. Pavitt aa Town Clerk and Returning Officer for the borough, which was agreed to. The Mayor apologised for the absence of Councillor Glover through illness. An offer was received from the Woolston Library Committee offering the use of a portion of tho building as an office, with iuel and gas, which was accepted. The Mayor reported that the Heathcote Road Board had Eromised to have their accounts with the orough made up before the next meeting of the Council, and that with regard to the Tramway Company the Manager had stated that the tram line tunning through Woolston would shortly be put in good order. The Finance Committee reported that since the last meeting £85 had been paid into the Bunk, and that the credit balance was now £36. The Mayor stated that the correct financial position of the annexed portion of tho borough could not be given until the accounts with the Heathcote Road Board had been adjusted. The Works Committee reported that the tenders for Radley road formation had been considered too high, and recommended that the matter be held over for the present. The Clerk reported that he had seen the Railway Department as to the dangerous state of the footbridge over the Heathcote River, and the Engineer had promised to have the matter attended to. The Mayor submitted the aeal of the borough, which was approved. A letter was received from Mr H. J. Hawker, complaining of the overflow of water on his property near the river. The Clerk was instructed to reply that a trap-door would have to be provided to stop the overflow. Mr Hopkins reported that the Committee of the Ferry road school had decided to re-name the school so as to be known in future as the Woolston borough school, and moved that the portion of the Ferry road from Radley bridge up to St. Peter's be called Ashbourne street This was aeconded by Mr Douglas, and agreed to. It was decided to get another ICO yards of broken metal and 25 yards of screenings. After passing the accounts for payment the meeting ended.
