RANGITIKEI ELECTION.

WELLINGTON, June 3.
Mr Bruce, who has at last consented to stand in the Opposition interest for the Rangitikei seat, has a very large and strong body of supporters already. Active work has been determined on to carry him against all opponents. Mr Stevens on the other hand, though standing in tho Ministerial interest, is not.yet taken up by the Government as the Ministerial candidate. 1 learn that Ministers aro reluctant, after their recent disastrous experience iv Otago, to run the risk of another severe slap in the face, as Mr Bruce is regarded as safe to beat Mr Stevens, who is said not to be very popular in'the district, whereas the iufluence of Mr Bryce and Mr Bruce is exceedingly strong. The result is regarded here as a foregone conclusion in favour of Mr Bruce. (PRESS ASSOCIATION* TKLEOnAM.) WELLINGTON, June 3. Mr R. Bruce has consented to stand tor the Rangitikei seat, and it is expected that the contest will rest between Mr J. Stevens and him.
