NEW BRIGHTON.

MEETING OP DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the above Association was held on Friday evening last. As matters of considerable importance were to be discussed, there was a large attendance of members. The President, Mr G. King, occupied the chair. The deputation which had visited Wellington ,with reference to the loan, reported what had been done, and also stated that several of the members of Parliament rendered valuable assistance whilst they were in Wellington. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to all who assisted in expediting the granting of the loan. Mr G. Mclnttue moved—" That a delegate be appointed to confer with the Road Board, and generally to represent the Society in matters relating to the Esplanade wall and the formation of roads."

This was carried, and Mr G. King was unanimously elected to act as such delegate. Mr Hickman (Surveyor to the Board), stated that the Board had decided not to take in hand any of the works until such time as the property owners had ferfced in their sections and generally subdued the drifting sands. This decision seemed to meet with the approval of all present, inasmuch as it was felt that moneys expended before the sand is subdued would only be wasted. The following works were suggested to be taken in hand as soon as possible .-—Esplanade wall, 6 chains on either side of Sea View road, Union street, Hawke's street, as far as Sparshott street; Wilson street, as far as Union street; River road, from bridge to Herriot street; Thomas street and High street, from Union to George streets. These streets being all more or less protected, were considered to be in the most fit condition to commence with. The Chairman of the Road Board stated that so soon as the Board was in funds the footpath on the south side of Sea View road would be formed. The fact that some practical works are to be token in hand immediately seemed to be highly appreciated by those present.
