ROAD BOARDS.

A VOX. The ordinary meeting of this Board watheld on Monday, the 9th inst. Present— The Chairman, Messrs Broadley, Philpott, and Wray. With regard to the formation of the roads on section 304, it was stated that a special rate would 1:01 realise more than one-quarter of the estimated cost of the work. Eesolved, that the work be deforred until such time as the residents are prepared to defray one-half of the cost, Mr Wray dissenting. Mr Simpson interviewed the Board, complaining of the condition of drain on Preston's road. The Clerk was directed to inspect, and if possible to give relief. The Chairman stated that at a conference of the membere of the Biccarton and Avon Bood Boards, relative to the future maintenance of the North road, it was decided that this Board maintain the road from the junction of the Hare- ! wood road for a distance of 31S0 links, and from a point about 27.50 links north of the Styx bridge, indicated by a peg, to the river Waimakariri; the Eiccarton Board to maintain the intervening distance, namely, 172 chains 30 links. Moved by Mr Philpott—"That the decision of the Conference be ratified by the Board." Seconded by Mr Broadley, and carried. The tender of Mr H. McElroy, for a supply of shingle on Belfast road, was accepted. Besolved that the Board at its next meeting strike and levy a rate of $d in the £ on all rateable property in the district. The Clerk was directed to advertise a meeting of ratepayers to be held on Tuesday, the 24th July, to decide on the proposed diversion of the Lower Styx road and Brice's road. The following correspondence was read : —From Union Bank of Australia, acknowledging receipt of specimen signatures. From Selwyn County Council, requesting certain statistical returns. From T. C. Moorhouse and Co., complaining of the condition of Factory road, Belfast. From A. E. Tutton. drawing the attention of the Board to the state of the culvert crossing the road leading to his property. To reply that it is outside of the Board's jurisdiction. Tenders for forming the Horseshoe Lake road were opened, when it was decided that none be accepted. Applications for the appointment of dog ranger were opened, when Mr Mr J. H. Harte was appointed. Mr Albert Hawken saw the Board, complaining of the dangerous state of the drain by his property. The Clerk was directed to draw tho attention of the Drainage Board to the matter. Accounts amounting to £113 Is 8d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
