Road Board Fined.
The Feilding Star of February 11 states that it is not often a local be>dy is called upon to defend an action for allowing noxious S to flourish in its district, but :in instance has occurred in Marlborough, where th_ Pelorus Road Board was sued by the Government Inspector, under the Noxious Weeds Act, for allowing blackberry and sweet briar -to grow on the river banks, after receiving notice to clear the weeds away. The Board contended that as they had been denied the right to lease the cutting of flax o,i the lands in question, they had no jm isdiction there, 4Pnd were viol liable.
