The Floods in New South Wales.
Among other pastoralists holding land in the flooded country in New South Wales is Mr fC.;M. Officer; SM.L.A., who owns Kallara. In writing to a friend in' Hamilton he says: —"What terrible, losses in Queensland and New South' Wales caused by' the'flooding of the rivers! Two of my friends have lost 106,000 sheep;,be£ween them. The total losses of stock cannot be estimated yet, but it is supposed they will amount to nearly 2,000,000 sheep, besides cattle. So far as'l know Lam not an actual loser by flood^ but indirectly by overcrowding I' may lose. However, I feel thankful to have escaped (a great catastrophe.' On the Kallara run the water is out about 25 miles from the river banks. Three years I ago there was a run near Walgett on the Darling 'starved out," and the owner ruined by drought. On the same run 36,000 sheep have been drowned. Who, after this, will say that squatting is not risky ¥'
