From our ovm Correspondent.) All the gangs on the AlfredtonWeher Road have .finished ...their contracts. They now have a month oft. The road is now formed 2| miles from the township. The pant's in future will be divided into three classes :—No. 1, single men, are to have two days work per week and 4 days oft. No. 2, married men, with their families here, are to ha ve 5 days work at 5s per day, and 1 day off. No. 8, married men, with their families in town, four days work at 5s per day, and 2 off. 50 men from outside will be put on .’u a fortnight’s time, under these rules, on this road. Messrs Handyside, Roberts &c., arc going to have 600 acres of manuka scrub cut on their Glencoe Kan next month, which will take a few hands from the outside ranks of the unemployed. Mr D. Burling had two pairs of bullocks poisoned by tutu on his last trip to the coast for stores. The Pongaroa Bridge is to be built next natumn, the timber being cut early next spring. This bridge will take 80,000 feet of totara, which will be taken from the Totara Reserve, near the proposed bridge site. Mr Parsons is about to build a house on his section facing the Makuri-Aohango Track. The timb- v lias been cut at the saw-mill. Mr Frank Reed is the successful touderer for the building of the new Post Office store, and will commence operations next week. It is to he hoped that the Government will push on with the two - bridges on the Pongaroa Track, as the present crossings is nothing but n man trap, horses being constantly bogged.
