Otjk Jiles are to the 12th inst. LYTTELTON ELECTION. Yesterday was a busy day iv Lyttelton. la tho early part of the morning the agents of the various candidates were very active, denoting the importance of the coming struggle. The poll opened at 9 o'clock, aud during tho first hour, tho Port candidates — Messr3. Aynsley, Davis, Buchanan, and Hargreaves, or the members of Lombardstreet as they were afterwards denominated - took the lead in polling the majority of votes : this majority gradually increased up to 2 p.m., when the supportora of Mr. Bradwell began to show well at tho poll ; but he was always about 18 behind afterwards. At the close of the poll, the Returning Officer declared the following to be the number of votes recorded for each candidate ; —

At 4 o clock, Dr. Donald, the Returning Officer, declared the tirst four gentlemen duly elected members for Lyttelton in the next Provincial Council. Dinner to Mb. Moobhouse. — A complimentary dinner was given last evening, in the Town Hull, to Mr. Moorhouse. About 140 persons were present ; the chair was taken by Mr. Ollivier, and Mr. Luck acted vice-chairman. — Press, June 12. THE CANTEBBUBF. CABINET. announces the following appointments to the Executive Council and offices of Government : — Mr. Tancred, President. Mr. Stewart, Provincial Secretary and Secretary for Public Works. ! Mr. Garrick, Provincial Solicitor. ! Mr. Cass. Out of font? members two, Mr. Tancred ! and Mr. Stewart, were members of Mr. Bealey's Executive. Mr. Garrick's appointment as Provincial Solicitor will give gene- ' ral satisfaction, and will enable the Govern- | ment to present a fair front in the Provincial Council. The addition of Mr. Cass to the Executive we presume signifies the intention of the Superintendent to take the advice of the oldest administrator of our laud laws in the changes which have become in the pre-emptive right system,
