RUMOURED POSTPONEMENT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

The steamers Wonga Wonga, White Swan, and Airedale, yesterday brought us late dates from Auckland, Napier, Canterbury, and Otago. With the exception of the proclamation defining the .Most populous portions in both islands to be Militia districts, the papers are almost devoid of news affecting readers put of their respective provinces. From another source we learn that it was spoken of in Auckland as settled that the meeting of the General Assembly would be postponed to June, and that several changes in the representation for that province would meanwhile take place. The disturbances at Taranaki are made the plea for the postponement. Mr. John Hall has resigned his seat for Christchurch Country, and will probably .he succeeded by Mr. Joseph Britain, Mr. Cookson still stands unopposed for Mr. Olliver's seat, and if opposed would -be sure of being returned. At Otago Mr. Gillies is in the field for the seat so long and worthily filled by Capt. Cargill and. is unopposed ; while at Napier Mr. Ferguson again offers himself.
