WAIRARAPA AND HAWKE'S DAY ELECTION.
We are happy to state tliat steps have been taken to upset the election of Mr. Ferguson for the above district. In addition to the illegality of curtailing the necessary number of days required to be given previous to the day of nomination, another has been committed by the nomination having beeu presided over by the Hemming Officer's clerk, Mr. Harris,'instead of by the Returning Officer himself. A petition to the Governor has been despatched by special messenger, praying him to issue a new writ under clause 52 of the Electoral regulations. In the event of. this petition failing another has been addressed ti> tha House of Representatives as required by the standing orders of 1856, and the necessary bonds Sec. entered into; these have been sent to Napier also by special messenger, and every other requirment complied with to prevent the election being held good. .
