By the steamer Tasmania* Zlaid, which arrived in this harbour on Sunday afternoon last, from Nelson, we have received files of the Examiner and Colonist up to tlie3i'st July They contain uo later English news than had previously come to. hand.: . The briganline Active from Melbourne the 16th. July, arrived off Nelson on the 24th, after a 'passage of 8 days. The European Mail was 10 days overdue •when the Active left Melbourne. 'The Marchionan, therefore is probably waiting for the mail, and may possibly bring on the two mailt together, as she did on a farmer occassion.'
KoYAt, Lyokcm Theateb.— lt will be seen by our advertising columns of to-day, that Mr. Bruton's benefit is fixed to take place on Tuesday evening the 10th inst., when, we sincerely hope, that- gentleman's great talent as a.comic ictor, and his praiseworthy exertions as a caterer for the public amusement, willbe fully", recognized.' The piece.of the evening ia, J nek Sheppard.. The'veision (selected for represen-: tatiou is that by Thomas Greenwood, Esq., and is a great improvement on all previous adaptations from Ainsworth's well known novel; all objectionable scenes, and every incident which might offend the most scrupulous moral mind, have been carefully suppressed. A laughable farce and other, entertainments are to conclude the amusements of. the evening. We heaitily wish Mr. Bruton the success he bo well deserves, but which we regret to|>ay our politira' troubles have debarred him from during his sojourn in this town. - r< :•• .
