1. "That the able, lucid and temperate statement we have just heard from Charles R. Carter, Esq., in reference to the : affairs of the fcrnallFarm Association, the discharge of his duties as our representative in the Provincial Council, an.l -the motives In- which 1,- j s actuated in offering his .valuable services as our representative in the General 'Assembly,' -not only calls for our warmest acknowledgments,; but warrants our unlimited cunfi.leuce in the ability zeal and integrity which have hitherto marked his conduct." ■ • ■.

2. That in the event of the information wlncb has this day reached us, piovinjr correct/ we feel called upon to express iiV the'strongest terras, our disapproval of the hasty and unconstituiional wanner in which the nomination and election of a Member, to serve in the Genera! Assembly for this district has been conducted—the said nomination and election having taten place at Castle Point on. the 22nd instuut, as we ;ire informed without due notice, and within a less time than is required by the law, thereby precluding' us from the exercise of our just rights as electors; an.l that with a view to obtain redress the Principal Returning Officer Y.e respectfully requested- to cancel the return made as ilieipil and appoint another election ofwhich sufficient noticeshall[be given.' Should this course prur« unavailing we pledge ourselves to bri:ig the subject,under the notice of His Excellency the Governor by Memorial and to employ eieiy constitutional means in our power for obtaining redress. ~-..■ a. By the steamer Tasmania* Zlaid, which arrived in this harbour on Sunday afternoon last, from Nelson, we have received files of the Examiner and Colonist up to tlie3i'st July They contain uo later English news than had previously come to. hand.: . The briganline Active from Melbourne the 16th. July, arrived off Nelson on the 24th, after a 'passage of 8 days. The European Mail was 10 days overdue •when the Active left Melbourne. 'The Marchionan, therefore is probably waiting for the mail, and may possibly bring on the two mailt together, as she did on a farmer occassion.'
