COUNCIL MEETING.

The first meeting of the Wanganui Council was held this morning at the office, Harrison St. Presents—Messrs Williamson, Duthie, Jones, Bett, Watt and Nathan. The business gone through was purely of a formal character. The Councillors signed the deckrotion as provided by the Municipality Act, and then proceeded to elect their Mayor. By virtue of his late position Councillor Williamson proposed "that Councillor Watt should be the Mayor of the Municipality of Wanganui for the first terra." Seconded by Councillor Nathan and carried nem. con. The Mayor having briefly returned thanks the meeting adjourned till 8 p.m., for the transaction of the ordinary business.
