MATAHIWI AGAIN.

Mb A, W. Renall has been interviewed by our local contemporary and has stated that Major Coote bought Matahiwi from tho Superintendent of the Wellington Province thirty-six years ago and paid for it. At the same time Mr A. W. Renall purchased forty acres' in the town of Masterton, which ho also paid for no doubt. Our contemporary advocates dispossessing Major Oooto's family of Matahiwi and converting it into thirty homesteads. Could lie not also with equal propriety, advocate dispossessing Mr A. W. Renall of his forty acres and converting them into forty town homesteads. There is a demand for town acres in Masterlon and why should ,oue prominent liberal retain forty of them ? No doubt ho paid for them thirty-six years ago, no doubt he would like to leave them to his family—but those peculiar ideas arc antiquated and not in harmony with modern liberalism. Why should not Mr Hogg, M.H.R., ask the Government to amend the Land for Settlement Act, so that men like Mr Renall, who hold properties that ought to bo sub-divided in the interests of closo settlement, might ho dispossessed, From our point of view, it would be a robbery and injustice to take Mr Renall's laud from him; but from our contemporary's, the thing is right and expedient, and tho sooner lie takes steps to bring it about the better.
