The £500 Trotting Handicap at Melbourne was won by the New Zealand horse Sparkling Bells, with Rexie second, and Luke third. There were fourteen starters. Sparkling Bells won by half a length

Lemberg had an easy task at Newmarket to place the Jockey Club Stakes of 10,000 soys., to the credit of Mr. Fairie, the Derby winner being followed home by Dibs, but at a respectful distance. The field numbered nine, but did not include Neil Gow. Sportsmen hopo to see the two groat rivals in opposition in cup races next season.

After the (running of the Epsom Handicap at ElLerslie on the second day of the A.R.C. Spring meeting, the stewards were called together to consider a complaint against B. Deeley for his handling of Kakama in s that race, the allegation being that he* crossed Appelon. The inquiry was postponed until the following day. After hearing evidenco. the stewards decided that the crossing did not affect the result of the race, but to show that such practices cannot be countenanced, fined. Deeley £25 for the offence. ' .

The New Zealand-bred horse Annapolis (by Phoebus Apollo) has been apportioniid top weight in the Perth Cup (2m; and Railway Stakes (l^m), with 9st 101b and 9st 131b respectively. Annapolis went across to Victoria for the spring racing campaign, and on the. form displayed at Flemington he must make wonderful improvement to have any chance in the events to be decided under, the control of the W.A.T.C. at midsummer.

Little Huxley, the jockey, r/ho is riding in good form in England, and who is apprenticed to Wootton, is an Aus. tralian, his father being one of the betst jockeys in Australia some years ago, where he won the Caulfield Cup twice, the A.J.C.
