Death of Mr Edward Lake.
By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent. Auckland, This Day. Mr Edward Lake, ex-M.H.R. for Waipa, died at 8.45 this morning. Mr Edward Lake, who resided for a number of years at Ohaupo, took a prominent part in local body affairs and all matters connected with the progress of the district. For some years he was chairman of the Waipa County Council, resigning from that body when elected to represent the district in Parliament, 1884. Mr Lake retired from public life in 1890, being succeeded by Hon. John Bryce, but on this gentleman’s retiring in 1891 he was again returned, and sat for two years, being succeeded by Mr Lang. On selling out his farm at Ohaupo Mr Lake resided at Onehunga up to the time of his deatHi Latterly he suffered considerably from rheumatism, being practically a cripple for a couple of years past. Of a kindly, courteous disposition, Mr Lake has always been highly respected by the earlier Waikato settlers, and his death will be greatly regretted. We join with many of the older settlers in extending our heartfelt sympathy to Mrs Lake in her bereavement.
