OBITUARY.
SERGEANT WARRING
The Inspector of Police was informed this morning of the death of Sergeant Warring, who was in charge of the subdistrict' of Tima_-u. Sergeant Warring had a long and honourable record as a member of the police force, his service extending over a period of nearly thirty years. He joined the force in November, 1876, being then twenty-seven years of age, and did duty in the Canterbury district, having charge of the Coalgate and Southbridge stations. He was transferred from Christchurch to Dunedin, and after a period of service in the Lakes district was promoted and placed in oharge of the Invercargill sub-district early in 1898. In September, 1901, he was transferred to Timaru, where he remained until the time of his death. He was an excellent officer, discharging his duties "to the entire satisfaction of the Department, and wherever he wa,s stationed he was always respected and esteemed by those with whom he came in contact.
