THE CHRISTCHURCH SEAT.
Mr W. H. Cooper has been approached with a view of his becoming a candidate for the Christchuwh. seat, and is taking time to consider the matter.
At a meeting of the Trades, and Labour Council on Saturday night it. was resolved that the Cpuncil considers it advisable to select a Labour' candidate for the election. Owing to the^ limited: time it was found impossible for the Council to take a> ballot of the whole of the Unionists affiliated to the Council. The number of Unionists in Christchurch was stated to be 50()0. Each member of the Council is to receive '» ballotpaper for the purpose of selecting a candidate, andi the ballot Is to close on Thursday next. It is understood that the Council has selected Messrs C. Taylor, W. Newton and G. Fisher, and that the ballot-paper will contain these three* names.
